As the chief psychiatry resident in Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami I am responsible for caring for a large, underserved community of patients that are mostly minorities. This is the only hospital in the area that is designated “area of critical need” by the Federal Government, and, as such we see a very diverse population of patients. I have completed all my core rotations through the inpatient unit where I ran the unit as a “team leader” teaching the interns, residents, and the medical students how to operate as independent physicians. I also rotated through consultation liaison psychiatry where I integrated the medical practice with the practice of psychiatry. All of my core rotations in Geriatrics, Child Psychiatry, and Addiction have been completed as well. As the chief I am now responsible for running and maintaining a residency program that has over 50 residents.
